Do you ever encounter Catalpas (Catalpa bignonioides or Catalpa speciosa) in the area where you work in California?
@@88SC yes, they can grow quite large. Not a common tree there but I like them. Huge leaves!
I cheated and looked at what one of our better nurseries’ library and discovered that it’s a Chokeberry. I’m in the middle of the Great Plains, so the same trees that thrive in Aurora do well here. Someone already answered correctly though.
Not cheating to gain knowledge. The more effort one puts into obtaining facts, the better we remember them.👍🏻
I was close! Do more!
Ok, I will do so. I believe that keeping it as a guess or figure it out process helps retain the knowledge.
I'm always stoked to learn more trees. Are you sure that's not an oak? 🙃
@@pamelah6431 it’s a Canadian Chokecherry
@@arboristBlairGlenn I'm just kidding.
Thank you 😊 I'm interested in learning!

Same here
I’m far from being “the” expert on trees. I know a lot but never stop learning. ✌🏼
I have no clue Glenn, but I did read the comments. I’ve never seen that tree either. Thank you so much for sharing your journey and adventures. I travel sometimes too and often times see trees I’ve never seen before.
Purple sand cherry!
Cherry
Fruits look like a chokecherry.
Canadian chokecherry. The green new growth was a dead giveaway for me, they're all over where I live!
WD-40 gets it shiny new ❤
It’s a THC Tree and that dude is trippin’ cause he visited the dispensary just moments before.
I don’t smoke pot. But I can identify the plant.
The edibles are much more convenient I would agree. What’s wrong with your eyes Brotherman ? Live, laugh, toaster bath…
Choke cherries are an essential native! Great for supporting birds :) they are native to southern Ontario as well.
I thought so too but I remember choke cherries is a bush ,my great grandmother use to make them in to jam .
I love trees
Prunus virginiana 'Shubert' without looking at any of the comments.

Are the green tips an attempt at reverting?
@@pamelah6431 great question! I really don’t know this tree and that is the reason I put this video up. I learned the species but it does not grow where I live.
I feel like you're being a bit pedantic with some of these guesses, Blair! I figured it was some sort of cherry by the leaves and the lenticels, but I'm not familiar with this specific cultivar.
@@nolowputts this video is about tree identification, that’s it. I gave the answer to those who got it right. Testing yourself is important. In truth, I don’t know this tree either and had to look it up. I gave enough for those interested to be able to figure it out or look it up. It is a very unusual tree that does not get planted in my area. Will it grow well at my climate and temperate zone? Not sure.
@@arboristBlairGlennwhat do you use for plant ID when you have to look it up? I've used the Seek app and at times Google lens. They work OK but you have to be able to get up close and personal with the leaves/flowers for any degree of accuracy.
I try my best to share what wisdom and knowledge I have about my clients trees. That being said each tree and client is different and it can be a challenge to do what's best for the tree (which is my top priority) but also satisfy the client. As an arborist we ultimately make the decision to make a cut or not. Sometimes clients think they know what they want and sometimes they demand they know what's best and neither are true in most situations. We have to know when and what to cut and not cut and when to walk away or run away. Trees may not have rights but arborists by definition are tree advocates.
@@osagejon8972 fortunate for me, most of my clients say “I leave it up to you”.
@@arboristBlairGlenn Early in my career I had to walk much more than now. As I have gotten older I have had many more leave it up to me as you said. I am about 20 years behind you and hope to be in the trees when I make it to your age!
